The Internet and mobile communication was a source of great hope for pro- freedom activists around the world, but these technologies have been turned against humanity as the worlds most advanced mass surveillance tools. Is advanced technology a power for or against personal and societal freedom? We will examine the role technology, and in particular the freeness of that technology, plays in ensuring equity, fairness and freedom for all. You will come away with a new understanding of just how important free software is for the future of humankind.
