Improving PostgreSQL performance (Workshop)

PostgreSQL ships with a basic configuration tuned for wide compatibility rather than performance. We will explore those configuration options, demonstrate how they influence performance, analyze database scheme,explain life cycle of a query, use ANALYZE and EXPLAIN to profile and understand how queries are executed, learn how to find slow queries, garbage-collect our database with VACUUM, explore index types, partial and multi-column indexes and briefly touch the subject of performance monitoring, with built-in tools and standard UNIX monitoring utilities. Attendees are expected to bring their own laptop.
